Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that the club will exercise their option to extend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract for a second year, keeping the big Swede through the end of the 2017-18 season.

"Zlatan’s situation is simple," Mourinho said in a press conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League match against Feyenoord. "He has one plus one. We are happy with him. We are going to execute the option of a second season. After that he can do what he wants."

The 35-year-old Ibrahimovic hasn’t come close to hitting the heights with United that he did at previous clubs, and he’s been the subject of rumors linking him to Major League Soccer. He even stoked the flames surrounding a possible move earlier in the week by saying he could see himself "conquering the U.S.," leading many to believe he was a one-and-done in Manchester.

However, Zlatan hit back at the rumors of his Red Devils’ career being over: "At the moment we haven’t had any discussion. I feel in shape, fresh and good. I feel like now it will be a second year."

When asked when he would shine at Old Trafford, the big Swede replied: "I shine 24 hours. It depends how you want me to shine. I’ve been in the game for 20 years and I’m getting older, yes, but the older I get the better I get I feel. But I’m shining, in one way or in another way, but if you want me to shine even more I will try to do it for you."

The luster might have dimmed, but Zlatan’s light will shine on in Manchester for at least another year.
