A year removed from one of the most memorable news conferences of Tiger Woods’ career, he admitted that there was a time when he didn’t know if he’d ever play golf again.
Last year at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, Woods said that anything else that happened in his illustrious career would be “gravy.” Tuesday, in the exact same spot as last year, he admitted that comment came because he couldn’t get out of bed on his own each morning.
“How can I expect to come out here and swing a golf club at 120 miles an hour and be ballistic when I can’t even get out of bed,” Woods said. “So, yeah, there was a lot of trepidation at times where I thought … was it realistic.”

Most of the concern was because it was a back issue. Some guys on Tour have little issues here and there and in their minds they know they’ll be able to return at some point. For Woods, that was not the case.
“Each individual spinal injury is different and has its own little personality,” Woods said. “With nerves, you just don’t know.”
