Most of the country will get a day off work for Thanksgiving Day, but not the South Carolina Gamecocks football team.
Head coach Will Muschamp recently explained the team’s plans to work on game prep straight through the holiday.
“We’ve got practice in the morning,” Muschamp said, per Mike Wilson of SEC Country. “We’ll be in here early. It’s awesome. Thanksgiving is a meal. It’s not a day. We’re going to have a great meal, and then we’re going to watch a little tape, then maybe watch a little more tape. We’ll get our walkthrough cards ready for Friday, so it’s going to be awesome.”
At least he plans on getting his players a great meal around practice and film study.
Some extra preparation might be needed if the Gamecocks plan on winning their last game of the regular season. They will travel to face No. 4 Clemson Saturday night and are currently 24-point underdogs, per Odds Shark.
Muschamp is in his first season at South Carolina, leading his team to a 6-5 record. The team finished last year 3-9 between coaching runs by Steve Spurrier (2-4) and Shawn Elliott (1-5).
Prior to that, the 45-year-old coach compiled a 28-21 record with Florida and then spent last season as the defensive coordinator at Auburn.
While Muschamp hopes the strong work ethic will help lead to more wins in the future, it’s tough to imagine too many players will be excited to miss out on a traditional Thanksgiving feast.
