Why Titans WR Harry Douglas’ low block vs. Broncos was actually legal

A fight broke out during the Broncos-Titans game on Sunday after an apparent cheap shot by Tennessee wide receiver Harry Douglas. On a running play, Douglas dove at Chris Harris Jr.’s knee, attempting to take him out of the play.

It seemed like a dirty hit at the time, and the Broncos certainly believed it was. However, FOX Sports NFL rules analyst Mike Pereira says it was a legal play. Harris was pursuing the ball carrier, and by rule a receiver is able to block him low as long as he’s not engaged in another block.

The Broncos took exception to the hit, but they shouldn’t expect Douglas to be fined or penalized for the play.
