Watch: Westy whiffs – twice! – trying to knock ball in water

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. And when that doesn’t work, give up and put your ball in your pocket. That’s how that saying goes, right?

Lee Westwood got off to a hot start in Round 1 of the Turkish Airlines Open, going out in 4 under before a double bogey at the par-4 10th. As if that weren’t bad enough, when Westwood tried to rid himself of that mean ol’ golf ball, it just wouldn’t cooperate. After putting out for double, Westwood dropped his ball and swung at it in the direction of the greenside lake with his putter. But he whiffed the first time … and the second time … and then he scooped it up and put it in his pocket and proceeded onward.

To make matters worse, Westwood would post 40 on the back thanks to an additional three bogeys, eventually settling for a 1-under 70.
