While UFC 205 will be the biggest sports story this week, it is currently being overshadowed by the 58th US Presidential Election. The race between candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump has been hotly contested, with enough trash talking to put UFC 205 to shame.
While most of the fighters on the card have avoided posting their thoughts on the two candidates, some fighters have expressed strong support for one of the candidates. Trump seems to be the most popular candidate with UFC 205 fighters, as well with other popular MMA personalities.
Donald Cerrone has shown strong support for Trump, posting a photo of himself with the GOP nominee and fellow UFC 205 fighter Tim Kennedy. Cerrone also praised Trump in a recent media dinner while vocalizing his support for an MMA fighter’s union.
Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman has been a vocal Trump supporter for the past year. Weidman says that Trump makes good points and keeps things real, unlike other candidates.
“I like Donald Trump, I listened to his speech. I think we need him in the country, I’m not gonna lie. He’s a little over the top, but a lot of the stuff he says is on the money, I think, on what this country needs.”
Another former UFC Champion, Miesha Tate, has also given Trump a little bit of support. She likes the fact that both have a common enemy in Ronda Rousey, as well doesn’t want to see a third term for the Democrats.
Other fighters that have supported Trump on his run to the White House include Tito Ortiz, Royce Gracie, Andrei Arlovski, Nik Lentz, Mike King, Eddie Wineland and UFC President Dana White.
Most fighters have been quiet on their support for either candidate on social media. Clinton has seen no support from any UFC 205 fighter on social media, but UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley has spoken strongly against Trump.
