Oklahoma went into Ames, Iowa, as the big favorite Thursday night, and though it was far from easy, the Sooners came away with a double-digit win over the Cyclones.

ISU coach Matt Campbell’s team fell to 1-8 with a 34-24 loss to a Sooners team that has now won six consecutive games after starting the season 1-2. Now, they enter a rugged stretch against Baylor, West Virginia and Oklahoma State expecting to get star running back Samaje Perine back.

They didn’t need him against Iowa State, thanks largely to junior fullback Dimitri Flowers, who entered the game with zero career carries. By the end of the night, he had 22 carries for 115 yards and added three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Baker Mayfield added 328 passing yards and four touchdowns, and the Sooners dominated the second half to walk away with a big win before an important end to the season.

Campbell’s Cyclones continued their hard-luck season, but at least they aren’t getting blown out. They gave OU all it wanted, but the Sooners just had too much talent in the end.
