Norlander gets career boost from RSM playoff loss

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Henrik Norlander’s par attempt at the third extra hole may not have dropped, but even without a trophy to take home his week at the RSM Classic was a success.

Playing on a sponsor’s exemption, Norlander’s closing 65 earned him a spot in a five-man playoff won by Mackenzie Hughes. His tie for second place also earned him a spot into the next open event, January’s Sony Open, which is a crucial start for a player without any status on the PGA Tour this season.

“Obviously disappointing, but I’m still happy with the week for sure,” Norlander said. “It was the first time I was close to the lead or in the lead and I just felt really calm so that’s something to build on for sure.”

Norlander also earned 184 non-member FedEx Cup points, which will help him secure future sponsor exemptions in his quest to regain his Tour card.
