Music star Darius Rucker is now a golf agent

It appears Niall Horan has some musically gifted company in the world of golf management.

According to ESPN, Darius Rucker, who rose to fame with Hootie And The Blowfish before launching a successful solo career, has signed on as a partner with MGC Sports, which represents golfers, football players and coaches.

Rucker, 50, is expected to focus on golf clients, as he is not a licensed agent with the NFLPA, and already has many golf connections, having attended charity tournaments for years, as well as the Ryder Cup and Arnold Palmer’s funeral in October.

MGC Sports already represents golfers Ben CraneTroy MerrittSteve Stricker and Kenny Perry, among others.

“If I didn’t see Jay Z crushing it in the business like he is, I probably wouldn’t have done it,” Rucker told ESPN. “But I think I have a lot to offer.”

Jay Z, the rapper turned sports agent who started Roc Nation Sports, has signed some of the biggest names in the NFL, NBA and the MLB, including Dez BryantRobinson CanoKevin DurantNdamukong Suh and Yoenis Cespedes.

“The sports agent business is definitely a cutthroat business,” Rucker said. “I think I have a lot to offer, coming from my upbringing to where I got to. We’re not going to be that firm that offers $100,000 marketing guarantees as loans, but I think we’re going to get the right kids.

“I’m going to be really involved. I will be one phone call away if a client needs some advice or needs me to be at their game.”
