Koepka trails by one at suspended Shriners

Brooks Koepka trails Rod Pampling by one at the suspended Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, with play halted on Friday night because of darkness. Here’s where things stand through two days at TPC Summerlin, where Round 2 will resume on Saturday at 7:30 a.m.:

Leaderboard: Pampling (-14), Brooks Koepka (-13), Aaron Wise (-12 thru 14), Chris Kirk (-11), James Hahn (-10), Keegan Bradley (-10), Pat Perez (-10)

What it means: Pampling followed up his opening-round 60 with a more modest 3-under 68. The 47-year-old, two-time PGA Tour winner leads by one over Koepka, who is ranked 22nd in the world, who is fresh off his first Ryder Cup, and who is in search of his second Tour victory. Two back and still playing his second round is reigning NCAA champion Aaron Wise, who’s 7 under through 14 holes with four birdies, two eagles and a bogey. He’ll have four more holes to finish Saturday morning as he vies for the 36-hole lead in Las Vegas.

Round of the day: After Pampling shot 60 on Thursday, Chez Reavie had an opportunity of his own Friday to shoot 59. Unfortunately, he settled for pars on 17 and 18 and a round of 10-under 61. It was a remarkable turnaround for Reavie, who shaved 15 shots off his first-round 76.

Best of the rest: Brian Harman made 10 birdies and a double bogey to turn in 8-under 63. Wise, as mentioned, is 7 under through 14 holes.

Biggest disappointments: The Shriners champion from 2014, Ben Martin carded four doubles, four bogeys and two birdies to sign for 10-over 81. Notables outside the projected cut line of 3 under include Graeme McDowell (-2), Danny Lee (E), Vijay Singh (E), Patton Kizzire (E), David Lingmerth (E), Kevin Na (+1), Hunter Mahan (+3), Ollie Schneiderjans (+3), Patrick Rodgers (+5), and PGA champion Jimmy Walker (+8). Walker posted rounds of 74-76 to find himself just two shots out of last place, held by Martin.

Shot of the day: Koepka poured in this 32-foot eagle putt at 16 to tie for the lead at 14 under before a bogey at 18 dropped him one back:
