The Miami Heat will be without Dion Waiters, the team’s third-leading scorer, after an MRI revealed he suffered a Pectineus tear, the team said Wednesday.
Waiters, who signed a two-year, $6 million contract in the offseason, will be re-evaluated in two weeks but there’s no timetable for his return. He sat out Monday’s loss to the Celtics with a right groin strain.
Waiters is averaging 14.2 points, four assists and 3.4 rebounds in his first season in Miami. He’s playing for his fourth team since being drafted No. 4 overall by the Cavaliers in 2012.
The Heat are off to a slow start this season, tied for 13th in the East with the Nets at 5-12.
