CM Punk ‘pretty confident’ his next fight will be in the UFC

After close to two years of build-up, the debut of CM Punk in the UFC couldn’t have gone worse for him. The former pro wrestler was completely manhandled and defeated by Mickey Gall at UFC 203, and it seemed that he would be one-and-done in the promotion.

Apparently though, that might not be the case after all.

Punk was a guest on The MMA Hour, where he revealed that he’s going to fight somewhere no matter what, and Dana White may have come up with a way to use him in the UFC:

“That’s up to Dana. I had a good conversation with him. I told him ‘Hey, if you want to cut me, I get it. But I’m fighting, whether it’s for you or somebody else.’ Now, I don’t have an agent, I don’t have a manager. I’m like Bill Murray, just with a lot less money and not as funny or as famous. But I told him I want to fight again. We’re back at it, we’re back to the drawing board. It’s up to him. He floated me an idea and we’re kinda going back and forth on it right now. I’m at the point where I kind of want to get something on paper. You might hear an announcement in the coming weeks, I really don’t know. There’s no timetable on it.”

In fact, he is quite optimistic that he will enter the Octagon again:

“I’m pretty confident it will be in the UFC.”

“An idea” sounds more like something gimmicky than an actual fight. Perhaps a TUF season built around him, or something similar? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if there’s an announcement in the next few weeks.
