The continuing story of Ronda Rousey’s potential professional wrestling career had another chapter written over the last couple of days. TMZ was able to spot the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion out for dinner with WWE CEO Triple H, real name Paul Levesque. When approached and asked about it, Rousey just brushed off the question.
This does lead to even more speculation about her coming into WWE – especially with a unique event coming up. The Royal Rumble goes down on January 28th, and it was recently announced that the show would feature a women’s Royal Rumble for the first time.
For non-wrestling fans, it’s a gimmick where different wrestlers come down the ramp every two minutes and try to throw each other over the top rope and out of the ring. There will be 30 participants in the women’s rumble, and with only 20-odd currently on the main roster, there’s plenty of room for surprises.
Hence all the talk about Rousey making her debut there.
Yesterday, Levesque spoke to The Associated Press and threw some water on the fire:
“We have nothing to announce at this time. But she’s a huge fan of what we do and she’s incredibly interested in what we do and the opportunities that lie there. We’re fans of hers and incredibly interested in what those opportunities could be with us. But there’s a lot of things to walk through. We’re talking. We’re having conversations.”
This being pro wrestling, you can bet that he’s just trying to swerve the fans with that statement. I’d bet on her being in Philly on the 28th.
